Searching for a Grain of Truth
Integrity is a word seldom associated with our politicians in Canberra. Sadly, after the revelations about the Australian Wheat Board scandal this is unlikely to change.

Where would you expect to hear the following exchange?
Person 1: "He said that you said that you knew what he said he was doing and said it was okay."
Person 2: "Did not."
Person 1: "Did too."
Person 2: "Did not."
Person 1: "Did too."
Person 2: "Did not."
Person 1: "Did too."
Person 2: "I never said that. I never asked him."
Person 1: "I said that you should ask him."
Person 2: "I didn't bother."
A primary school playground? Hanging out in a McDonald's car-park on a Saturday night? The cut-throat world of catwalk modelling? Actually, it's none of those. It's our Federal Government at work, ducking and diving to save their political careers in the face of more and more damaging evidence in the Australian Wheat Board scandal.
The Australian public are rightly appalled that hundreds of millions of dollars in kickbacks were paid by the Australian Wheat Board to Saddam Hussein's regime in order to secure lucrative contracts under the United Nations' oil-for-food scheme. Now, as the Cole inquiry tries to find out who knew what and when, it's just as appalling to see the childish behaviour of members of our Federal Government who are obstructing the inquiry using political rhetoric, ducking questions and passing the buck.
Our Federal Government has embraced the principle of the three wise monkeys: see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. They failed to see what was staring them in the face, they did not listen when alarm bells were sounded and they failed to ask questions that needed asking. This is not good enough. They were elected to be the eyes, ears and voice of the Australian public but have failed on all counts.
The tactics used by the Federal Government would not be tolerated amongst primary school students, bored youths or the modelling fraternity and they are certainly unacceptable for those who are running our country. We are ashamed and disappointed. To our Federal Government, here is a simple message... grow up.
