Moe Plays Host to Alien Visitors
The search for aliens fascinates amateur and professional astronomers the world over. Large and small telescopes scan the night skies for evidence of extraterrestrial life and computer users the world over can use the Internet to help analyse data from radio telescopes. Despite all these resources, astronomers were amazed to learn that aliens had visited a small town in rural Victoria undetected.
Regulars at the Moe lawn bowls club Saturday afternoon Ladies Pennant competition were surprised last week when a small space ship landed in the car park and four aliens dropped in for post-match tea and scones. Despite not having club memberships, the aliens were made welcome by the club members and were invited to play a couple of ends of bowls. Angus Lander, the club president, said “The aliens were quick to learn the rules and played quite well for beginners.”
The club’s social secretary, Nancy Lander, said “They were a lot smaller than we expected and they were very polite. We had a lovely time drinking tea, eating pumpkin scones and swapping stories. One of the aliens even helped me with my knitting and picked up a dropped stitch in the bed socks I am making for my eldest grand-daughter.” The visit lasted well into the evening with one of the aliens being given the honour of calling out the bingo numbers for the night.
The aliens left just after closing time and took with them a packed lunch of club sandwiches for their long journey. They were waved off by club members who invited them back next week for the club’s monthly bridge night and buffet dinner.
After hearing about the alien visitors, the president of the Traralgon Amateur Astronomer Association demanded to know why no-one had asked the aliens where they had come from and the secrets of long distance space travel. The aliens had said that they had some free time and were in the area. They chose the Moe lawn bowls club because it seemed like a cool place to chill out and unlikely to cause the hysteria of their previous visits to North America.
