Safe Web Email Tips: Protect your privacy and your identity

Here are a few simple tips for using Cool.com.au's email service.

We will *never* contact you for your details

Beware of people claiming to be from "Cool Support" or "Cool Admin" - most of the time they are NOT from us, rather people attempting to trick you. If in doubt, leave a message at our contact form here. Only we can get these messages, and if we reply, you know it is from us.

We will *never* send you a ZIP or other attachment, asking you to "validate" your details.

This is a very common email scam and virus spreading technique. Delete these emails if you get them.

Be suspicious of all attachements

When opening an attachement you must always err on the side of caution. Even if it is from someone you know, it could still be a potential security risk (they may not have even sent it to you, rather a worm/virus may have sent it from their PC).

Keep your PC protected and patched

The best way to keep your PC secure is by keeping it updated with the latest patches, especially if you use a Windows computer. But don't stop there: make sure you have a good anti-virus software package installed and/or a good firewall.
