Apple, in partner with Motorola' is expected to launch highly-anticipated iTunes-equipped mobile phone within a few days.
Apple will host a major music-related media event scheduled on 7 September in San Francisco's Moscone Center, and a variety of industry sources are claiming the gig will see the launch of the delayed handset.
Whether this new hybrid phone will continue to improve on Apple's allready hughe Mp3/portable audio market remains to be seen.
Apple's continuing dominance of the portable digital audio device continues with over 70% market share, and the iPod has now become a household name and icon. However moving into the mobile phone arena poses some new challenges. Even with partner Motorola - who is the world's second largest cell phone maker, it's still largely untested waters. But Apple needs to launch this challenge, as typical consumer mobile phones are becoming more and more competitive in the MP3 audio / portable entertainment arena. The biggest challenger's to Apple's new market entrance are some of the network carriers themselves - they don't want Apple's iTunes to encroach on their own music to your phone services. With iPod updates in the works - higher capacity Shuffles, the fifth-generation iPod, plus the much-rumoured Video iPod - Apple may also announce a number of other products. But it could save these for CEO Steve Jobs' Apple Expo Paris keynote later in the month.
